Cascading lists not working

May 12, 2011 at 3:22 PM

OK I may be doing something wrong, so let me explain what I want to do and let you tell me if it is possible and if so how to do it because I am under a deadline and losing my mind.

I have a list called OrgList. This list contains military organizational units (Wing, Group, Squadron, and Flight)

They are in the same list. The column OrgLevel specifies which is which. There is also a ParentOrg column that is a number with the ID of the parent Organizational unit.

I have three dropdown lists. The first one (Group) needs to display the OrgName for items that have OrgLevel of 'Group'.

The second then needs to be filtered by the ParentOrg of the first drodown list item.

The Third needs to be filtered by the ParentOrg of the second item.

They will all need to display OrgName from the same list.

Now how would I do that?

Having all your data in one list is going to cause you headaches, and not just with SPCascadeDropdowns. Take a look at the docs and restructure your data like I show in the Country -> Region -> State -> City examples. The way you have your data currently constructed, SPCascadeDropdowns isn't going to work for you.

Will do, I had the suspicion that I was going to have to do that. Thanks Marc!
