I need the listname from knowing the GUID

Oct 24, 2012 at 5:17 PM

I have some code that uses only a GUID for its reference to a list. Said list is, evidently, not in the site but must be within the site collection. I need to find that list.

PowerShell and C# are not available to me, but jQuery would be fine.

Thanks in advance...

Here is the code I had to work with:

http://whatever/_vti_bin/owssvr.dll?Cmd=Display&List={2C1FFE32%2D57EC%2D4FFF%2DBF69%2D8746D3D30B96}&XMLDATA=TRUE&SortField=Column5&SortDir=Asc

This defined a data connection within an InfoPath application (that uses SharePoint list data to populate dropdowns).

Although I recognized that I had done this a couple years ago to provide a sorted list for use as a dropdown, it took a few minutes of sub-conscious reflection before I realized that I could just run that URL in a browser. When I did that, the contents of the list appeared, and although I don't think the list name was among that data, it was enough to clearly identify the list for me.

Michael, we (the followers of SPServices) appreciate you posting back with the solution even though no one answered your original post here.

It sounds like you are using a similar method as the one I was going to suggest: use a built in SP form/page that is not site specific and that displays list info based on a list UID.
