force use of Check-In button on Edit.aspx page

Is there a way to always force the display and use, of the 'Check-In' button, instead of the 'OK' button, seen on an EditForm.aspx page, of a document library, using only client-side scripting with SPservices/jQuery? I am trying to minimize the bad UX design of having to click first the OK, and then choosing 'Check-In document' from the documents context sensitive menu, in the library to check-in. I would like my EditForm.aspx page to work, just like the EditForm.aspx page does, when first uploading documents into a library, that does have the 'check-in' button. I am referring to SharePoint 2007/MOSS.

You can certainly change the default behavior of the buttons with client-side script. What I'll do sometimes is hide the "real" button and add my own with its own behavior. When the conditions I have behind my button succeed, I simply click the real button programmatically.
