Error Occurred : Starting a workflow

I am trying to programmatically start the in-built Approval workflow in MOSS 2007. Here is the sample code I am trying to execute:

operation: "StartWorkflow",
async: true,
item: "https://server/site/ListName/9_.000",
templateId: "{e33a75d3-055b-49f5-86d6-85d78f93c0be}"

On executing this code, I get no errors but somehow the workflow status on the list item shows Error Occurred and no tasks get created in the task list for the workflow. I know that the way I am specifying list item url is correct since other url's give 404 not found or 500 bad requests.

Any help appreciated.

I can't remember if workflowParameters is required or not. In case it is, try adding:
workflowParameters: "<root/>",

Hi Marc, thanks for your response.

Tried workflowParameters: "<root/>" as well. Does not work.

If you're getting Error Occurred in the status of the workflow for the item, then it would seem that the workflow is firing just fine, but that it has an error in it. In other words: downstream from the SPServices call.
