SPCascade - Non standard port

We've been using the SPCascade on a Sharepoint 2010 site for a while and it all worked fine for a long while. We used SPServices-2014.01.

After a bunch of updates (both for Windows and Sharepoint) suddenly the cascading no longer worked. All the items were suddenly available in the child dropdown.
After checking this site, we tried applying the new 2014.02 version. This version seems to be working better as it empties out the child dropdown. It however does not fill it up with the correct results. Instead a bunch of Javascript errors show up:
XMLHttpRequest cannot load http://sitename.domain.local:80888088/sitename/_vti_bin/Lists.asmx. Cross origin requests are only supported for protocol schemes: http, data, chrome, chrome-extension, https, chrome-extension-resource.
The Sharepoint site is running on port 8088. From the error above it seems it's doubling the port into "80888088".

Is there any way we can fix this?

As a followup: I found out that the 2014.01 version was running into the "Required Field" issue (see https://spservices.codeplex.com/discussions/538561). I've currently got it up and running again with that version with the workthrough.
Is the fix applied for this problem in 2014.02 language independent? The site language is actually in Dutch and it seems that even the par of the title with "Required Field" gets translated.

Just wanted to say thank you for posting the fix you found since I just ran into the exact same issue. You have saved me many additional hours of beating my head against my desk. I thank you and my client's budget thanks you. :)
