I'm adding a 3rd cascading drop down on my page and the first 2 work fine, and #3 is populated based of the #2 selection. When I run my page, I'm getting the following error:

Unable to get property 'split' of undefined or null reference
in jquery.spservices-2014.02.min.js, Line: 19, Column: 36780

I'm not calling the SPLIT function in my code at all and all of my data is one word, mainly countries.

code
$().SPServices.SPCascadeDropdowns({
           relationshipList: "Sales Type",
           relationshipListParentColumn: "Sales_x0020_Documents",
           relationshipListChildColumn: "Title",
           parentColumn: "Sales Documents",
          childColumn: "Title",
           promptText: "choose sales contract.....",

           selectSingleOption: true,
           debug: true
      });

That's an error in SPServices itself. I'm not sure why you're getting the error, but it generally means an issue with your relationshipList data.

I have ( value ) in my data for some, could that be breaking it? Other then that, I have no [ , " . {} ) etc. characters. Is there a max length that the SPServices is looking for?
I have some data that's 20 characters long

Any data ought to work, though I'm sure there are some crazy exceptions I don't handle.

I removed the parenthesis and all other characters from the text and it still kicked back the error message.

I'm not sure what t suggest. You will probably need to do some debugging on your end.
