GetGroupCollectionFromUser when using AD security groups.

Dec 2, 2010 at 1:12 PM

I noticed that if I add AD security groups into a SharePoint Group. The GetGroupCollectionFromUser call will not show any groups you've been made a member of using an AD security group.

For example, if you created a SharePoint group 'Test Team' and add the AD security group 'domain\Test_team' as a member. All members will have the same permissions as the group, but when you run the GetGroupCollectionFromUser function, it will not see the sharepoint group 'Test Team' in the response.

Is there a workaround for this?

It looks like this one got missed, but the webservice does not check AD groups as it is not tied to AD. If you are relying on this service, you have to add the user to the Sharepoint group. At least this is my experience with it which is why I have to use custom code because we use AD groups...

Look into the GetRolesAndPermissionsForCurrentUser as well.
