Combine SPAutocomplete & SPLookupAddNew

Apr 13, 2015 at 3:39 PM
Hi All,

Is it possible to invent a combination between a lookup field with autocomplete & add new item functionality at the same time?

Because SPAutocomplete uses input "Single Line of Text" & SPLookupAddNew uses "Lookup".

Kind regards,

Anything's possible!

The main issue will be that if you have a look field, then all of the allowable values for the column are sent in the form digest. If you add a new value to the list (trivial), then the form won't submit.

Hi Marc,

I want something similar like this:
I tried the trial version for Office365, and by investigating the code it uses the Select2 Framework for getting the Autocomplete Lookup Dropdown. The Add New Item link is just rendering the NewForm on the other list. Maybe i will have to try to implement these two elements after eachother on the form in Sharepoint Designer by referencing to the Select2 files and use the REST API for querying the values. You think this is a good option?

No idea, really. It all depends on your requirements.
