Is it possible to update a discussion folders properties

I'm trying to figure out the simplest way to update a discussion group item using a button. Essentially I have a discussion list in SP2010. When an admin clicks on a thread, I want a button inside the thread that will allow them to change the status from Open to Closed. However, the url doesn't include the discussion ID or parentFolder ID, etc.

Is the RootFolder parameter the only option to update that discussion group?

Simk:

Discussion items (the original post topics) are a Content Type that is based on Folder, as you've noticed. The are still list items, though, and can be referenced by their ID.

So while the URL to a discussion might look something like this:
https://tenant.sharepoint.com/sites/DI/Lists/Discussion/Flat.aspx?RootFolder=%2fsites%2fDI%2fLists%2fDiscussion%2fCMS%20chaning%20Requirement%20for%20Lactate%20testing&FolderCTID=0x01200200991E31338CA2234191BCDC9E651B605D

you can also reach it by going to a "normal" URL like:
https://tenant.sharepoint.com//sites/DI/Lists/Discussion/DispForm.aspx?ID=40

Thus, you can update them just like any other list item.

Hi Marc,

The issue I'm facing is that when I click on the discussion, and enter the threaded or flat view I don't know how to get the ID for that specific item. Since it's not in the URL by default, is there another way to retrieve it?

I grabbed the URL above by going into a discussion and clicking on the edit link. You should see the ID there.
